Twin Cities Photography | Kris & Denise Get Engaged!

So about a week ago, I received a call from Kris who was looking for a photographer to photograph his proposal to his girlfriend, Denise. He had come across my website as he was doing a search for photographers in Stillwater and liked my style of work. I was so excited when I checked my schedule and found that I was available on the date he was looking for. He had everything planned out for the day which included dinner at Luna Rossa and then ending with the proposal at Lowell Park. Since the pair play a lot of Scrabble he decided that he would propose to her through the game. It worked out great! I got to the park a little ahead of Kris and Denise and found a grassy spot in the park to hang out and wait for the couple. A few minutes later, they walked through the park, Scrabble game in hand, and settled down at one of the picnic tables. They sat and chatted for a few minutes, then Kris opened up the game and then got down on one knee. I was so glad that I had my new 70-200 lens so I could capture images from afar without Denise even noticing. She was ecstatic and of course said yes! :-) Congratulations Kris and Denise! Thank you for letting me a part of your special moment!090718miller07090718miller22090718miller27090718miller34b090718miller61b090718miller70

Twin Cities Senior Photography | Sneak Peak from Arielle’s Session

I’m so far behind on blogging and it’s only the start of the senior season! This CAN’T be good! But none the less, I had to make time to blog about Arielle’s senior session and post a couple of the amazing images from the session!

Arielle came into the studio a couple weeks ago for her senior session. I was SO excited because it was one of the first senior shoots in the new studio space and was the first session with my new 5D Mark II camera. She came to her session toting a bag full of fabulous clothes and shoes (good thing she brought her boyfriend to help carry stuff!) :-) . One of the things I love about Arielle is her eclectic style. She’s can completely rock outfits that I KNOW I could not pull off! We started off in the studio with a more “traditional” outfit and background then moved outside to downtown Stillwater to photographer her more funky outfits. These are just a few of my favs from her session…hopefully I’ll get a couple more posted to the facebook page and website here shortly! Thanks Arielle for a fun session! Can’t wait to show you all the images!Arielle senior session in studioArielle senior session in studioArielle senior session downtown StillwaterArielle senior session downtown Stillwater

Twin Cities Photography | Fireworks in Stillwater

Every year during the spring and summer, Stillwater comes alive. People come in droves to the downtown area to shop at the local business, eat at the local restaurants and relax by the river. And the 4th of July is by NO means any different! So many people come to downtown that you can’t hardly find a parking space for blocks! It’s a great spectacle with everything from live bands to blow up amusement rides for kids to Civil War reenactors that shoot off cannons throughout the day. Then for a grand finale to the day they have a huge fireworks display at dusk.

Earlier this week I got my BRAND NEW camera, the Canon 5D Mark II. It’s quite an upgrade from my old, but reliable 20D and so I’ve been itching to use it. I thought, why not take it to the fireworks and try it out. Let me tell you…it’s AMAZING! I set up my tripod and camera with the 16-35mm lens and just went to town! The quality of images that came out were just phenomenal. I can’t wait to try it out this week on my upcoming portrait sessions. Here are just a few of my favorite fireworks images and for more (and there are A LOT more!), check out my Facebook Page.09070408090704270907043209070434090704370907044509070453

Iowa Fashion Photography | Mandi’s modeling session

Awhile ago I received an email from a sweet girl named Mandi. She had happened to find my website while cruising the net looking for a fashion photographer and decided that my creative images were just what she wanted to get her portfolio off the ground. We chatted and said that since she lives in Iowa, and is actually not far from my hometown, that we could do the session the next time I was down visiting family. And it worked out great!!

I met Mandi at the CoffeeCat, a little coffee shop in Mason City, early on the morning of the shoot. I ordered up a fantastic mango smoothie (I’m definitely not a coffee drinker!), plopped all my stuff down by the table and started chatting away with Mandi. She had brought a whole bag full of clothes and some great shoes! Having scoped out the town a little before hand, we decided on the first outfit and headed outside to the alley behind the coffee shop. The back alley was amazing! There was a great set of rusty, urban stairs, a fun green door way and a bright blue building that had a rusty door on it. So many ideas! So little time! We played around with a couple different outfits there, then it was off to the “junk yard park” that Mandi had found. The junk yard park was amazing! It’s literally a fenced off area that is full of old license plates and street signs signs, concrete slabs, benches and the like that are formed into different areas you can walk through and sit in. It had so many possibilities and Mandi really rocked it out. Here are some of my favorites from the session and, as always, there will be more on the website and my Facebook page for you to check out! Thanks Mandi for being a fabulous model and for suggesting the junk yard park! :-) 090615005b090615078090615087090615146090615265b

Twin Cities Weddings | Ashlee & Matt’s special day with Studio Blue Photography

As soon as the grass starts turning green and the warm weather starts to show up, wedding season has begun! And not long after, it seems like all my weekends are booked with traveling around the Cities (and sometimes out of state) to photograph someone’s special day. Not only do I do weddings on my own but also as a second shooter for various photographers around the metro. I like getting to see how other photogs do their thing and seeing how we can blend our styles together to capture really unique images for each client.

About a month ago I got the opportunity to meet Bryan, a fantastic wedding photographer located in the St. Paul area who owns Studio Blue Photography. He was looking for a second shooter for an upcoming wedding. He told me that Ashlee and Matt were a great couple that were naturals in front of the camera. Bryan really wanted to make sure their images were creative and something that they would love for years to come. And after seeing my style of photography on my website, he knew we could really pull off something fantastic for them.

Fast forward to a couple weeks ago…the wedding day! Ashlee and Matt were definitely a photographer’s dream. Easy going, fun loving and so in love with each other. Bryan and I followed them around from the salon, to the church, to St. Anthony’s Main and downtown Minneapolis for some fun after-ceremony shots, and then to the reception. Documenting all the events of the day. It was impossible to take a bad photo of the two! I had a great time getting to know the couple throughout the day and photographing along with Bryan. Ashlee & Matt – Thanks for giving me the opportunity to get to know you and I wish you the happiest years in your life together!

Twin Cities Fashion Photography | Alex’s modeling session

I got the pleasure of meeting Alex last weekend when she came to the studio for her first ever, professional modeling shoot! She’s just starting to get her foot in the door of the big modeling world and wanted to make a great impression with some professional images in her portfolio. It was kind of a dreary day so we didn’t get to do much outside for fear that her hair would turn from straight to curly. But she rocked it out in the studio that’s for sure! She definitely came prepared with a bunch of different outfits and accessories that we could play around with and create a couple separate looks for her portfolio. It was also fun to create some images in the new studio space here in Stillwater and try out one of my new backgrounds. These are just a few of my favorites from her session. You can see some more of my favs on my website and on my Facebook Page. Check them out and show her some love by leaving comments! Alex, thanks for a great shoot! We’ll have to do it again sometime! :-) 090606039090606065090606076090606094b090606170090606186
